Learning is a process that continues outside of school. When the kids are home and you’re looking for something fun and educational to do, science offers many options. Children can experience hands-on learning about the weather, nature and chemistry. Being involved in your children’s learning helps prepare them to be avid learners and develop fundamental problem-solving, critical thinking and resourcefulness skills.

We’ve compiled a few fun and exciting science activities and experiments to do at home. These easy science experiments for children require limited materials — including many you may already have in the house.

Science Activities for Children

Children can stay active while learning about different scientific topics when you set up science activities and experiments for them to do at home. Science experiments at home are equally fun as science activities. You begin with a question or hypothesis that needs answering, and then a process is followed to find the answer. For example, kids can ask a question like “How does salt affect ice?” and then experiment to see what happens.

Here are a couple of easy science activities to do at home that will pique your children’s curious minds and get them experimenting:

1. Milk Color Burst!

Milk contains fats and proteins that react differently when the solution changes. For this activity, you need only a little milk in a dish, food coloring, dish detergent and a cotton swab. Have fun creating color fireworks in your milk!

 2. Ice Cream Doesn’t Have “Ice”

You will need plastic bags, cream, salt and ice.  Kids get to see how melting ice actually freezes cream to make ice cream. When you do this activity, kids will have a delicious treat and enjoy their hard work.

3. Read About & Play With Dr. Seuss’ Oobleck!

This substance is both a liquid and a solid. It was given the name “Oobleck” by Dr. Seuss. Scientist call it Non-Newtonian Liquid. Find out why, with the magic of just corn starch and water (and a little green food color for authenticity). Kids will have fun as they discover different ways to keep the “Oobleck” solid or make it liquid. Science Is Fun With Bricks 4 Kidz

There are many ways to learn about science. By participating in these science activities and experiments to do at home, kids learn why something happens and how they can find solutions to familiar or interesting problems.

Bricks 4 Kidz provides STEM activities for kids. Sign up your children for our fun STEM enrichment, where they find solutions to problems by building structures & machines, programming robots, coding and much more.
