Brookdale Comm. College Summer Camps

Campus: 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft, NJ

Mining and Crafting Camp – June 21- 25

Bring your virtual designs to life and build an extraordinary MINECRAFT world using LEGO® bricks. Create characters, landscapes, houses, skyscrapers, and bridges. Learn and use techniques (stacked, overlap and stagger) LEGO master builders use to create large-scale designs. Then take building to the next level and assemble mechanical motorized models that move such as sailboats, vehicles and pirate ships. Themed games add to the week of fun. All materials are sanitized and provided to each child for the week.

Grades 2 – 4

Urban Architecture – June 28 – July 2

Let’s build a CITY! Junior architects, engineers and designers, will learn how to plan and build a town or a city and which important elements to include. They will create drawing schematics of their ideas, develop design plans and learn important STEM principals along the way. Daily hands-on creating will encourage exploration of design forms of famous skyscrapers, public buildings, private homes, parks, playgrounds, streets and sidewalks, waterways and bridges, using LEGO® technic motorized components and basic bricks. On the last day of camp parents are invited to see an innovative Urban BRICK City.

Grades 5-8

Amusement Park Design – August 9-13

Explore theme park design and engineering that leads to building a miniature Amusement Park out of Lego® bricks.  Bring your curiosity and enjoy hands-on learning about mechanical operations of rides, how gears of different sizes operate at different speeds and how friction and non-friction influence movement. Two projects a day encourage brainstorming and critical thinking. Examples of builds include the Famous Ferris Wheel, Carousel Swing, theme restaurants, ticket booth, water park, and grand entrance.  Exciting carnival-theme games in the Minute to Win It ® style add to the fun each day.

Grades 4-6

Trains, Cars and Airplanes  – August 16 – 20

If you want to build trains, cars and planes and then make them move, this camp is for you. Two hands-on projects a day using Lego® technic bricks and power functions reinforce speed and direction.  Explore new ways that gears are combined to influence movement. Whether you’re a high-speed thrill-seeker or just curious about how things work, this camp offers something for everyone.  Sanitized wireless remote controls and materials are provided.

 Grades 3-6

At Bricks 4 Kidz, we learn, we build, and we play with LEGO® Bricks! We use LEGO® products to provide a fun, hands-on learning and building experience focused on STEM concepts. The goal of Bricks 4 Kidz is to provide a learning experience for children that encourages critical thinking, creativity, organizational skills, problem-solving, and teamwork.

SCIENCE

Each model provides kids with a new scientific vocabulary. Lessons that focus on topics such as laws of motion, employ the concept of physical science, requiring children to apply what they’ve learned to their build.

TECHNOLOGY

Technology implements the use of science to invent and problem solve. Children use their creativity and analytical skills to discover viable solutions to problems presented at the start of each lesson.

ENGINEERING

Engineering uses the practical application of science to design and create. Although they may not realize it, kids use engineering skills to construct models, such as bridges, towers and roller coasters.

MATH

Children are given the opportunity to invariably utilize math skills as they estimate, count, measure and build with LEGO® Bricks.
