Instructors:

Melina Stock

For eight years, I worked as a kitchen and bath designer in New York City. I was fortunate to work on a variety of projects with teams of talented people such as electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and fellow designers. Each one of us brought our own special “know how” to the project and was instrumental in making it work often in a small space. The collaborations were always inspiring, as they exchanged ideas and fed off each other’s energy. Upon completion of each project, I walked away feeling enriched, not only as a person but also in my discipline. I experienced a similar energy while my son, who was five at the time, and I were building a complicated fire truck out of LEGO® city bricks that included a hose, lift-up doors, an adjustable ladder, and an oxygen tank. He would look in the book, figure out the pieces to use, and put them together. Then he would look for more pieces and add them to his creation, sometimes asking me: “Why isn’t this fitting?” or “Can you help me find a piece?” I was watching and thinking, “This is so amazing.” It’s mind-blowing, all of the little details LEGO® includes in a project that are related to everyday life. It reminded me of the many times I sat at my drafting table or computer designing a brand-new kitchen or bath surrounded by my tools and books. At that moment, I witnessed firsthand how young children can experience the joy of building—figuring out what bricks to use and where to put them, trying one construction only to rework it a few moments later—until reaching a final creation. At that moment, I could anticipate how a child could walk away enriched by that experience. Today, I see this engagement among the children I work with, some as young as 4 years old. They like to build and play with their hands. They like to use their imaginations and create and be taken away by their own ideas. And they love to collaborate with other children and come up with inventive ideas together. It’s pure imaginative fun for them. It’s why I love Bricks 4 Kidz® and why I am thrilled to be able to offer these enrichment experiences to children in our area.

Lead Instructors

Jana Adelson

Jana is an occupational therapist, who for a number of years worked with people who lost dexterity or movement in their hands due to an injury. Jana’s passion, however, is working with children. She has always been interested in pediatric OT and after taking some time off to raise her family she worked as an OT in the Middletown School District. Jana joined Bricks 4 Kidz® because she believes strongly in the importance of helping children at a young age develop their gross and fine motor skills and spatial awareness. She believes that the building children do with the Bricks 4 Kidz program can give them an exceptional opportunity to cultivate these fundamental skills. Nothing makes Jana happier than seeing the smiles on young children’s faces as they are building their creations. And she loves seeing the confidence grow when they start building on their own. With her unique backgrounds, Jana helps to be a part of the perfect team to deliver these educational enrichment experiences to your children.

Jessica Layton

Jessica has been working for Bricks 4 Kidz for the last six years. She has gained increasing responsibility throughout the years that include but are not limited to; model testing, manage and organize administrative materials, organization of camp related activities, instruct and supervise campers in the position of a Lead Instructor, and assist with social media accounts.

Jessica firmly believes that the camps would not be as enjoyable if it were not for the campers. The campers are without a doubt a joy to meet and interact with over the course of the camp. Jessica’s favorite camp that B4K offers is the Amusement Park Camp which dives into the various attractions and amenities seen throughout the park.

In her spare time Jessica enjoys engaging in physical activity such as; softball, basketball, and golf. Getting out of the house and enjoying the outdoors with family and friends is extremely important to Jessica.

Debbie Piescor is a master teacher and lead teacher of the Primary Class at A Child’s Place School in Lincroft, NJ. Outside of the classroom she also acts as the Curriculum Specialist for the school. Debbie holds a B.A. in Elementary Education & Psychology. Debbie has given presentations for the professional development of educators at several NAEYC conferences at the state and national level including this school year. During the Summer, when she is not at the beach, she is helping as a Lead Instructor at Bricks 4 Kidz. Debbie is looking forward to meeting all of the children and to get started with summer camp!
