F.A.Q.

Q.  Does Bricks 4 Kidz® in Shreveport and Bossier City offer child care services?

A. No.  Bricks 4 Kidz® is not, nor can it become a child care service.  Bricks 4 Kidz has a sole purpose of teaching your kids about LEGO® model building with bricks, gears, motors, etc.  Think of it more as S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) tutoring and learning than babysitting.  Just like piano lessons, art class, and gymnastics, we are here to teach, and the students are here to learn.  You may ask your kids what they learned in a Bricks 4 Kidz class and they might tell you that they just played with LEGO Technic bricks and motors the entire time.  But ask them about the gear ratio that was used in today’s model building and they just might teach you something new!

Q.  What are Bricks 4 Kidz® Classes?

A. Bricks 4 Kidz® offer creative and challenging classes using LEGO®  bricks, motors and remote controls.  We provide a unique learning environment where qualified teachers inspire imagination and invention.  We make learning fun.  “We Learn, We Build, We Play… With LEGO® Bricks!”

Q. How long is a Bricks 4 Kidz® class?

A. Most Bricks 4 Kidz® after school classes last for one hour.  Preschool classes are 30-45 minutes.  In school classes can be longer or shorter to best fit the needs of our students.  Holiday and summer camps are usually 2-3 hours long each day.

Q. Bricks 4 Kidz® does not currently offer classes at my child’s school. How can he/she attend classes?

A.  If your child’s school is not currently offering Bricks 4 Kidz® classes, contact your school administrator. We would be happy to do all we can to accommodate after school classes in any school in Caddo, Bossier, or DeSoto parish.  If you help us get an appointment at your child’s school and it results in after school classes, we will give your child 6 FREE classes!!!

Q. Can my child attend a Bricks 4 Kidz® class at a different school?

A.  The short answer is NO.  Our classes are only for students currently enrolled at the school.  You can not attend an after school class at a school where you are not currently enrolled.

Q. How do I set up a FREE Bricks 4 Kidz® trial class at my child’s school/daycare or other facility?

A. This would easily be done in collaboration with the school administration. Usually, when a parent expresses a desire for the school to offer something beneficial to its students/members, it is very easy to schedule a free trial class. Have your school administrator contact us at 318-734-5346.

Q. Will my child be learning or am I paying for them to just play with LEGO® bricks?

A. Children learn constantly in Bricks 4 Kidz® classes, and have fun doing it. The classes are hands on S.T.E.M. applications of science, technology, engineering, and math concepts. Your child will learn teamwork through partnering with classmates to build models and exponentially increase problem solving skills by building increasingly complex models. Our motto is that “We Learn, We Build, and We Play with LEGO® Bricks!”  Additionally, preschool students work with the alphabet and learn more about animals, famous places, and other interesting and educational subjects.  Everyone learns at Bricks 4 Kidz®!

Q. How many different ways can you arrange six standard (2×4) LEGO® bricks?

A. We thought you would never ask!  You can arrange six identical sized LEGO® bricks in 915,103,765 different ways.  That’s right, over 915 million ways to arrange six bricks.

Q. Do children keep the models they build?

A. Not usually.  All Lego® bricks and materials remain the property of Bricks 4 Kidz®. Parents who have purchased a LEGO kit for a gift, or for themselves,  know that the cost of Lego® bricks alone would make the class very expensive.  Students are encouraged and expected to learn about the materials each time they work with them.  It would be like attending piano lessons and bringing home a Steinway Piano each week.

Q. Do children get to keep anything, or take anything home?

A. Yes. At the beginning of some after school sessions or week long camps, each student will custom design his/her own LEGO® minifigure (LEGO® person). At the end of most sessions or camps he/she will keep the minifigure. Any pictures taken will be available as well as any stop motion animation class will include a DVD copy your student’s movie. In addition, t-shirts are available for purchase.

Q. Does Bricks 4 Kidz® require background checks for each teacher?

A. Yes. Each teacher must meet guidelines in order to teach Bricks4Kidz® classes. Bricks4 Kidz® performs background and record checks on every adult worker.

Q. Do you have a store where my child can come build and learn?

A. Yes.  We offer scheduled private classes and activities at our partner location of Bricks and Bots located inside of Sci-Port Discovery Center.   Most of our classes are held at schools around the area while summer camps and holiday camps are held at different locations around Northwest Louisiana including Bricks and Bots.

Q. How can I pay for a Bricks 4 Kidz® class?

A. You must pay for all classes in advance and/or put a nonrefundable deposit down for all camps.  You can do that with your credit card on our secure website.   If you would like to pay in cash or with a check, please contact us at 318-734-5346 or email us.  Since all of our classes are small and we frequently sell out, we can not refund deposits but can use the remaining funds to go towards a future Bricks 4 Kidz class or camp if notice is given in advance.

Q. Can I get a refund or change the class or camp if we go out of town or our plans change?

A.  Yes. If you let us know you need to change plans at least 30 days before the beginning of a class or camp, we can refund your tuition or let you change to another class or camp at no charge.    If you let us know at least 14 days in advance, we can move you to another class or camp that has an opening at no charge or we can refund 50% of the class fee.  If it is less than 14 days before the start of a class or camp we can move you to another class or camp that has an opening at no charge or we can refund 25% of the class fee.  If you child is ill and misses 3 or more days during a week long camp, we can register them for another camp if space is available.   We usually have parents waiting to sign up for some of our most popular camps and classes and they want to register their children in advance.   We do not offer refunds for students who miss a day due to illness or family plans.  But please, if you child is sick, do not send them to class or camp and get everyone else sick.

Q. My child missed a class because he/she was sick, we went out of town, we had a doctors appointment, etc. Can they make up that class?

A. As parents ourselves, we know that every kid can not be at every class.  Bricks 4 Kidz® cannot refund a class fee for a session that meets.  If your student is going to miss more than 50% of the classes due to illness or other serious situations, we can make arrangements for them to attend another class at another time if available.

Q. My child missed a class because their school was closed due to weather, a utility outage, school outbreak, etc.  Can they make up that class?

A. Most of the time we have already added in an extra day of class with long sessions.  When possible, we try out best to add in another class at the end of the session or try to squeeze one in between classes.  We will do our very best to try to make up the classes during that school session if possible.

Q. What groups can participate in a Bricks 4 Kidz® class or event?

A. Almost any group that wants to hold a class or camp can do so. We can work with home school co-ops, Boys & Girls Clubs, elementary schools, private schools, preschools, churches, special needs classes, parent-child classes, and more.  If you have a group that wants to offer a Bricks 4 Kidz® class or event, we can do it!  Classes at schools are just for the students of that school.  Let us know how we can be of service to you and your family.

Q. Who is the largest manufacturer of tires in the world?

A. You guessed it.  LEGO manufactures around 381 million tires each year.  That is twice as many as any other tire maker in the world including Bridgestone, Michelin, and Goodyear.

Q. Do you have a location to host a birthday party?

A. Yes!  We partner with Bricks and Bots located inside of Sci-Port Discovery Center for LEGO themed birthday parties.  We can also bring the party to you!  Everything can be brought to your location whether it be your home, a church, a country club, camp, etc in Shreveport and Bossier City.  We book up early, so if you have a date that you need, contact us ASAP.

Q.  Are there any inherent risks of my child attending camps?

A. As with any program with kids there are typical risks of injury you should be made aware of: (1) loss or damage to personal property (don’t let your child bring any LEGO bricks or anything they would be upset if they lost); (2) injury or fatality due to, and/or related to, (a) walking, running, jumping, colliding with other students, and/or other physical activity, (b) head, neck, arm, leg, and/or back injuries, (c) the condition of facilities which are not under the control and maintenance of Bricks 4 Kidz®, (d) exposure to inclement weather, outdoor terrain, and all the risks inherent therein, (e) slips and falls, and (f) any and all other aspects and stress related to the camp, including interaction with personnel at other locations, who may not be employees of Bricks 4 Kidz®, among others.  Also, alien invasion and zombie attacks, if you believe in such a thing.   We really can’t believe that you have actually read all the way down to this part of the page.  Good for you.
