FAQ's 4 Educators

STEM based activities tailored to meet your needs as an educator/teacher.

The purpose of this page is intended to answer many frequently asked questions by principals, administrators, teachers, after-school coordinators, and PTO’s/PTA’s.

What is Bricks 4 Kidz®?

Bricks 4 Kidz® is an educational program designed to provide a hands-on atmosphere where children will learn science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) using LEGO® bricks. Our students will learn about gears, motion, friction and more using Bricks 4 Kidz® proprietary models. A different model will be presented each week with themes such as space, inventions, natural disasters, amusement parks, animals, and more.

Why should Bricks 4 Kidz® come to my school?

Bricks 4 Kidz will be a great addition to your curriculum because:

  1. Students will explore engineering, architecture, physics, science, math, and technology in a fun atmosphere.
  2. Students will have the opportunity to play and socialize with friends while learning fundamentals of engineering and architecture in a non-competitive setting.
  3. Students will have an opportunity for creative expression.
  4. Students will gain insight into how things work.
  5. Students will discover that architecture and engineering are viable career choices.
  6. Students will learn the math and science involved with advanced LEGO® building.
  7. Students will develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  8. Students will think it’s fun. You’ll know it’s educational.

What does a typical Bricks 4 Kidz® after-school enrichment class entail?

Once everyone has arrived and attendance is taken, students are seated and prepared for the lesson of the day. A short 10 minute interactive lesson is presented relating to the “Model of the Day”. This creates a multi-disciplinary atmosphere in which the students will be exposed to an array of subject matter.

Next, our Project Kits are distributed and the fun begins! Students are given 2 dimensional building instructions to complete the model build. After the model is built according to the directions, the children are allowed to use anything in our Project Kits to modify their build. Students are also challenged to use different components of the Project Kits to figure out: what will make the model go faster or slow it down; what will happen if you change this gear and so forth.

With about 10 minutes left the children will take apart their models and put them away neatly. Then the teacher will lead the students to the assigned dismissal area and follow protocol set forth by the school.

This sounds wonderful, but I have some kids in my school who would love to attend but could not afford the tuition.

Our goal is to reach as many interested students as possible. We give one full scholarship for each 10 children who register. In other words, in our typical class of 20 students, we offer 2 full scholarships to be chosen by the school’s administration. If your school would rather, we could offer four 50% scholarships in order to reach more children.

How does the typical Bricks 4 Kidz® in-school field trip work?

Field Trips are very similar to our after school classes, except that these are usually a one-time event. We also expect to spend a little bit more time on the model build since these will likely be kids who aren’t “used to” our weekly model builds and need a bit more help understanding the various pieces in the Project Kit and working through the instructions. We expect the field trip to be on the school property, either in a classroom or in a another room on the campus. We work with the teacher, in advance, to plan a model build that fits into a topic or subject area she’s been covering at school. Some such topics are simple machines, energy, weather, gears, space, animals, inventions and more.

Bricks 4 Kidz® models are the centerpiece of the STEM-based lesson, which includes an educator-scripted discussion designed to engage students in a discovery process. Screened, trained Bricks 4 Kidz® teachers deliver everything needed, including LEGO® bricks, gears, axles, pulleys and more.

Can you do a field trip for an entire grade, or even the whole school?

Yes, though not always everyone at exactly the same time. Every school is different, so it depends on the number of students. We would typically have one teacher for a single class at a time for average-sized classes (15-20 students). If you want multiple classes and/or grades, we would either supply multiple teachers or have multiple time slots to reach all the children.

So what are these Project Kits, anyway?

Our proprietary Project Kits are made up of numerous LEGO® components, such as axles, gears, pulleys, cam wheels, tech pins, tech bricks, bushings and more. Each kit contains enough pieces for a pair of children to build any one of our numerous models. We will also bring motors, battery packs, remote controls and any other equipment that is needed.

You said something about a free class.

Yes, we’d love to come in and do a free DEMO EVENT for you one day to get an idea of the level of interest.

How do kids register for Bricks 4 Kidz®?

We can handle registration and payments directly through our secure website, or work with you to let you handle registration and payment. While we prefer to handle registration on our end, we are happy to route it back through you, if that is your preference.

What do you charge the students for Bricks 4 Kidz®?

It varies a bit depending on what topics we are covering, the number of sessions there will be, whether there is a rental fee for using the classroom space, and so on. We work hard at keeping the price in “ballpark range” with other programs offered at your school and in your area.
