The season of gratitude and giving is upon us. While we should always express our appreciation for those who are important to us, our efforts tend to be concentrated during this season. So, why not do something a little extra special for parents, kids, teachers, mentors and more to really get across your message of thanks.

Gifts are great, but sometimes even a small effort makes a big impact. One of the best ways to show you care is with a hand-written note. In this age of emails and texts, getting a card in the mail is a rarity. Jot down your thanks or thoughts on some fun paper, and invest in some interesting stamps. This will brighten someone’s day more than you know!

ShovellingBe helpful. If your neighbor picked up mail while you were out of town, make an unsolicited effort to repay the favor. Take care of their garbage, shovel their driveway, or take them a homemade meal.

Get crafty. Use your skills to create a small token that they will enjoy. Personalized ornaments, handmade soaps, simple jewelry and many more ideas will show great appreciation with minimal skill or effort!

SmileShow it on your face. This is is so easy and totally free and makes a big difference to everyone you encounter — Smile!  If someone holds the door for you, thank them and smile. If someone yields to you in traffic, smile! There are a million situations where it fits, and each one of them will affect the recipient and be contagious to the next person they encounter.

Once you start to make an effort to show appreciation, your awareness will grow, and you’ll find yourself seeking out ways to help others all year long, just because it feels good!
