Partnering with YMCA – El Camino ( Mountain View ) MINECRAFT Minecraft is a game where you dig (mine) and build (craft) different kinds of 3D blocks within a large world of varying terrains and habitats to explore. In this world the sun rises and sets as you go about your work, gathering materials and making tools. There is rain and the occasional lightning storm, and animals that you can tame, farm or use for food. Depending on which mode you’re playing in, you might also need to fight for your survival against hunger, danger and bad guys. EV3 Mindstorm Robotics ( 5 – 12 ) The hottest selling LEGO® brand, Mindstorms EV3 combines classic LEGO® building with the world of robotics using motors, sensors and software. Participants learn how to design and program their own LEGO® robot that can perform all kinds of tasks! Camp series begin by teaching the overviews of programing through a series of function-based builds. With this new skill set, participants are then encouraged to work as a team and think critically to apply these learned concepts to problem solve open ended challenges. Always popular, these classes are a fun and challenging next step into to the world of robotics for the advanced LEGO® enthusiast! Spectacular Science ( Ages 5-12 ) This camp brings the topics of energy and science to life using LEGO® bricks! Kids will investigate sources of energy from wind and solar power, laws of motions, to fossil and biofuel as they construct and test our motorized models. We will also build and discover the science of living things including the mechanics of the venus fly trap and why dinosaurs Stop Motion Movie Making (Ages 5-12) Lights, camera, LEGO® action! This unique camp allows your child to use the medium of bricks to tell their story, complete with music, special effects and all their favorite LEGO® minifigures! Participants creativity will be encouraged as they plan, script, stage, shoot and produce their own mini-movie using Stop Motion. Working as a team, students will use LEGO® components to build sets and props and then shoot their movie using a digital camera. Teams will learn movie-making software to add special effects, titles, credits and more! Your child will be able to impress friends and family with a screening on the last day and a digital copy of all the groups movies to take home

We begin with making storyboards, building characters, stop-motion concepts and how to turn movements into motion. With software, children begin to direct their own movie and tell a story. Sound and voice recordings are made to finalize the movie. Get ready, the last day we view everyone’s movie for showtime!

Summer Camp 2016 Description of Programs

Super Heros Academy (Ages 5-12) Join the fun with Bricks 4 Kidz as we build cool, super hero inspired models with LEGO® bricks. Construct your favorite super heroes from traditional bricks, along with custom contraptions using our motorized technic models, to set the scene for “save the planet” action! Discover which super powers each hero possesses and protect your brick world against all the evil arch enemies with our dynamic building games and challenges.
Jr. Robotics and Engineering using Motors and Gears ( Ages 5+ )
Take your child’s LEGO® experience to the next level with this engaging camp that offers all the fun and learning of our popular technic building classes, PLUS the challenge of computer programming! Using LEGO’s® We-Do drag-and-drop icon based software (designed specifically for elementary ages), sensors and remote controls; your child will further customize their builds by adding sound and motion. An excellent introduction into the world of computer programming and robotics that will ignite their imagination with possibilities in today’s technological world. Activities also include LEGO® based games and challenges, creative design with our giant tubs of free play.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles(Transportation) (Ages 5-12)
Explore the history of transportation from horse and buggy and trains to the development of the automobile and flight with LEGO® bricks.  The best part…these motorized models rock, roll and spin! Participants will create a variety of vehicles, customize them to their own specifications and take their mini-figure for a ride! Mining and Crafting  1 (Ages 5-12) Minecraft is a game about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine. At night monsters come out, make sure to build a shelter before that happens. Campers will be challenged to bring their virtual designs to life by building new mob figures, mosaics and custom models, incorporating LEGO® Bricks. Campers will delve into the history and mechanics of favorite amusement park rides as they construct a Carousel Swing, Tilt a Whirl, Loop de Loop ride, Swing boat ride, and Merry Go Round. Models explore the principles of physics described in a way children can understand, such as “G-force” inertia and momentum as they learn how to how to make things spin, roll, turn and rock to design their own ride.
